From 1999 to 2008, cancer death rates declined by typically 1.7 % per year for men, 1.3 % each year for women and 1.5 % annually for children, according to the report from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the American Cancer Society, the National Cancer Institute and the UNITED STATES Association of Central Tumor Registries. The survey was published on the web in the journal Malignancy. The declining death rates applied to all types of cancer, like the four most common: lung, colorectal, breast and prostate cancers.The governing board disagreed on compensation and time commitment also. Suggestions ranged from 20 percent time with an income of $50,000 to full-time with a $550,000 paycheck. During his six years at the helm, Klein worked well half-period at CIRM and earned $150,000 each year for the second half of his term. Since being reelected to the post in December, however, he has worked pro bono. In comparison, CIRM president Alan Trounson made $490,000 in ’09 2009. Additionally, the CIRM board members had differing views over how much power should sit in the position of the incoming seat.
